It is impossible to see all of Santo Antao island in one day. The optimal format for a short acquaintance is a leisurely trip with detailed stories from a driver/guide with stops at the main tourist attractions.

Tour starts:

Mindelo, morning. Our driver will pick you up from your hotel or private accommodation in Mindelo city (or, with an extra charge, from anywhere else on the island) and transfer you to the port terminal of Sao vicente, to board the ferry boat on which you will travel to Santo Antao. (we can also pick-up you from Santo Antao).

From Sao Vicente to Santo Antao Island

The ferry will take 1 hour to reach the Porto Novo port terminal in Santo Antao.

A friendly English/French/Portuguese-speaking driver will welcome you at the Porto Novo port terminal (he will be holding a sign with your name) and take you on an 8-hour tour along the mythical Corda road and to the best tourist attractions in the north of Santo Antão Island, offering you a fantastic experience.

Cova volcano crater

The first stop leads to the mythical natural monument of Cova, a volcanic crater at an altitude of 1,522 meters. Surrounded by majestic mountain ranges and pine trees, the sounds of nature create an atmosphere of peace and breathtaking beauty.

East Plateau

This Natural Forest Park is the largest pine forest on the island, preserved and unaffected by humans area. Situated in a microclimate region, the park is one of the most beautiful places in Santo Antao, combining historical value, natural wealth and a unique atmosphere.

Corda village

The next location makes us absolutely fall in love. The high-mountain village of Corda, located at an altitude of 957 meters. There are several viewing platforms here, including the iconic Delgadinho. From its top, there are stunning views of a galaxy of mountains and Ribeira da Torre and Ribeira Grande valleys. The terraces are a unique monument that was reclaimed from the mountains by hand over many decades by the villagers and turned into fertile plots for growing corn, beans, sweet potatoes, etc.

Viewing platform Nossa Senhora do Rosário

This is where all visitors stop to take a souvenir photo and enjoy the silence and surrounding landscape from a bird's eye view: the iconic places in the city of Ribeira Grande, such as the impressive Catholic church, the Nazarene church, the labyrinths of ancient quarters and countless houses are clearly visible from this site. All this, against the backdrop of the East Coast (the rural villages Lombo Branco and Pinhão) and the piercing blue sea.

Ribeira da Torre valley

After Corda Road, it was time to take a trip along the famous Ribeira da Torre valley. The views that everyone wants to see - picturesque mountain peaks, among many crops native to this beautiful valley: bananas, sugarcane, cassava, tomatoes, and others.

Fontaínhas village

This is a beautiful hidden gem on the island, the 2nd best location in the world, according to the international magazine NatGeo.

Explore Ponta do Sol city

A sightseeing tour around Ponta do Sol, a charming city known for its beautiful colorful streets, historic buildings of Portuguese architecture, as well as its artisanal fishing port.

Lunch Break

Enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. Options include traditional Cape Verdean dishes (possibility to appreciate un tasty fresh fish caught locally).

Paul Valley

After lunch you will be able to visit and appreciate Paul, the greenest valley in the Cape Verde archipelago...the flower garden. During the visit through the valley, we will stop at a rum distillery where we can taste the famous grogue.

Porto Novo port terminal

Return to the port terminal following the island's coastal road will take place around 3pm..

At 17:00 p.m - Ferry-boat Santo Antao - Sao Vicente island.

At 18:00 p.m - We arrive in Sao Vicente and drop off at your hotel/private accommodation in Mindelo city, with a lot of impressions that will last for a long time!

This tour has been put together to show you some of the best attractions in Santo Antao that you can visit by car in 9 hours. There are still lots more that you can see in Santo Antao that requires few days more.

Is this tour suitable for children?
This is a full day tour but has plenty to entertain the children at each stop. If you feel you children won't like a full day, the we suggest another easier tour.
